CS MBADI Threatens To RESIGN if Kenyans Keep saying he is doing a bad job as cabinet secretary

In a bold and unexpected move, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has issued an ultimatum to Kenyans: either acknowledge his efforts to stabilize the nation’s economy, or he will step down from his position.

Addressing members of the Bunge la Mwananchi at Nairobi’s Jeevanjee Gardens on Monday, February 3, 2025, Mbadi did not mince words.

“I respect any opinion however you put it. Even if you think Mbadi ninafanya kazi bure sana National Treasury, tell me now so that I can consider whether to resign or to continue,” he declared, blending English and Swahili to emphasize his point.

This candid statement comes at a critical juncture as the Kenya Kwanza government rolls out its action plan to stabilize the economy. Mbadi took the opportunity to brief the public on the upcoming 2025/2026 budget, highlighting the administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth.

He emphasized the importance of public participation in the budget process, noting that the government has invited submissions from various stakeholders to guide reforms aimed at fostering inclusive economic growth for the welfare of all Kenyans.

The Treasury CS’s ultimatum underscores the challenges faced by public officials in balancing policy implementation with public perception.

Mbadi’s tenure has been marked by efforts to engage the public in fiscal planning, as evidenced by the recent Public Sector Hearings for the FY 2025/26 and the Medium-Term Budget. These forums aim to provide Kenyans with a platform to contribute their inputs, complementing proposals from sector working groups to develop an inclusive budget plan.

As the nation approaches the finalization of the 2025/2026 budget, all eyes will be on Mbadi and the Treasury. The CS’s challenge to the public serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between governance and public opinion.

Whether this move will galvanize support or further criticism remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: John Mbadi is not afraid to put his position on the line in pursuit of what he believes is best for Kenya’s economic future.
