How Wangari Met Dr. Obwaka as Probe into His Sudden Death Intensifies

Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into the sudden death of veteran gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka, with detectives reconstructing his final moments and his relationship with a woman identified as Wangari.

Investigators say the two first met in 2015 through her personal gynaecologist, with their relationship initially described as professional before reportedly becoming personal following the death of her husband.

Wangari is currently being held as a person of interest as police work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the 83-year-old medic’s death.

According to authorities, Dr Obwaka fell ill while visiting her residence in Kitengela on May 1, 2026. He was later rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at around 7pm. The case was immediately reported at Kilimani Police Station, triggering investigations.

In her statement to detectives, the woman said the doctor had contacted her earlier that day while travelling and kept her updated on his journey until he arrived in Kitengela.

She told investigators she prepared a meal of rice and meat, which they shared. Shortly afterwards, Dr Obwaka reportedly asked for water but became drowsy and developed breathing difficulties after taking a few sips.

As his condition deteriorated, he requested fresh air. The woman then sought help from a neighbour, who found him unresponsive and assisted in arranging transport to hospital.

Using the doctor’s phone, the woman contacted one of his colleagues and a family member, who advised that he be rushed to Nairobi Hospital.

Detectives have since collected food samples from the residence for analysis, while a postmortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
