Kalonzo Wants Raila to Retire if He loses the AU Seat

Kalonzo Musyoka Urges Raila Odinga to Retire if AUC Bid Fails
Former Vice President and longtime ally of Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, has started making subtle criticisms of Odinga’s involvement with the Kenya Kwanza government through the Broad-Based government initiative.
In what appeared to be his first indirect jab at Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson, Kalonzo stated that they would not hold back if Raila chooses to align himself with President William Ruto.
Kalonzo, who leads the Wiper Party, also suggested that if Raila fails to secure the AUC chairmanship, he should step away from active politics.
“I don’t see how Raila Odinga would lose the chairmanship and come back and say he wants to lead Azimio. I would be amazed personally. That would not be the Raila I know. He must also have a reality check. For now, the option is he goes—if he wins, beautiful for himself, the country, and the continent. If he loses, I think he should simply retire,” Kalonzo said.
He further advised Raila to follow the path of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying, “I would advise Raila to retire and join former President Uhuru Kenyatta in that capacity—retired statesmen.”
However, speaking on Monday during the Social Newsroom Show with journalist Mark Masai, Kalonzo extended his best wishes to Raila in his AUC bid, acknowledging that he is well-suited for the leadership position.
