Former KTN Sports Journalist Collapses and Dies After Watching Kenya and Gabon Match

Nick Mudimba, a CGTN senior reporter who previously worked at KTN and Switch TV, has passed away.
Mudimba reportedly passed away on Sunday evening at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County, after battling an illness that included high levels of uric acid which he had been treated for on Saturday.
According to reports, he had been recovering steadily. He even watched the Harambee Stars football match with the Gabon national team before he collapsed, ending his illustrious life as a renowned sports journalist.
Until his demise, Mudimba was a renowned sports journalist who was passionate about the game and reportedly mentored other aspiring sportscasters.
Just a few days before his passing, he had posted on social media enthusiastically hyping up the football match between Kenya and Gabon on Sunday.
Several journalists promptly took to social media to mourn their colleagues, led by those working at Standard Group and the rest.
Renowned journalists like Citizen TV’s Mashirima Kapombe took to X to mourn him stating, “Demise, Why are you so cruel? Eternal rest grant unto Nick Mudimba oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen”
Her colleague Stephen Letoo also mourned the sportscaster, saying, “Oooh, Nooo. We were together cracking jokes at the AU Media Center in Addis Ababa. You assisted me in installing the latest Audio Sound Booth Recorder on my laptop. Rest in Peace, my brother Nick Mudimba.”
Fellow CGTN journalist Sharon Barang’a also mourned Mudimba, reminiscing about their work together and the good times they shared. In disbelief, she said, “Eeiii Nick Mudimba, you just decided to sign off so suddenly. Just like that. Our greetings every morning would go like… ‘vuche msakuru,’ and you’d laugh, saying, ‘Have you had tea?’ Rest in peace, my friend, aka Msakuru.”
BBC Africa’s Waihiga Mwaura, WiON News journalist Eric Njoka and NTV’s Lofty Matambo also mourned him.
Among all those who mourned him were rising journalists who credited him for mentoring them for mentoring him in their journey to become sports journalists.
They include; Chris Migwabi, a sportscaster at K24, and Momanyi Elijah, a sports journalist at Azam TV who both lauded the journalist for being instrumental in giving them a chance at Sports Journalist.
